Blood pressure checks
High blood pressure usually has no symptoms, so a check is the only way to know. It takes a few minutes, and it is free on the NHS for adults aged 40 and over.
A quick check
A seated reading taken in our consultation room, explained to you straight away.
24-hour monitoring
If a reading is borderline or raised, we can fit an ambulatory monitor so you can be measured over a full day at home.
Shared with your GP
With your consent, results go to your GP practice so they form part of your record.
Who it is for
- Adults aged 40 and over who have not had a check in the last five years.
- Anyone under 40 with a family history of high blood pressure, at the pharmacist's discretion.
- People already diagnosed who want an extra reading between GP reviews.
Getting an accurate reading
- Avoid caffeine and smoking for 30 minutes beforehand.
- Wear something with a sleeve that rolls up easily.
- Sit quietly for five minutes before the reading, we will give you that time.
- Bring your medication list if you already take anything for blood pressure.
